Source of truth
The vault markdown file is canonical. Ticking a check or changing a stage happens in the file's own frontmatter, not here. This page reads a generated cache and never writes back, so there is never a second copy to keep in sync.
How the pipeline works
Publishing has a gradient
In Em's own order, from smallest to largest:
Send it to someone. Just that: put it in front of one person.
Handwrite it and send it to someone.
Publish it by putting it on the website.
Send it into a publishing house for self publish.
At bare minimum, the goal for any piece is to send it to one person. That is why every new piece defaults to that next step, and why there is a filter here for pieces missing a share target.
